More toys

Driven into a state of jealous rage at the sight of Geeklawyer flaunting his new Nokia N95 phone, Ruthie felt there was no option but to engage in a spot of competitive gadget purchasing just to even the score.

She is now the proud owner of a Garmin zumo 550 satellite navigation system. The 500 quid price tag (if you want full European mapping) caused a sweaty palms moment, but this, dear readers, is not merely a gadget, but a work of art. The Rolls Royce of sat nav systems. It’s so highly specced that it could double as a spare part for a missile launcher.

For motorcyclists it comes with a handlebar mount, and it’s waterproof so you can even use it to navigate your rubber ducks round the bath. It acts as an MP3 player, and a radio adapter is available. Check out a review here.

For Ruthie who has the sense of direction of a lemming the Garmin has revolutionised her life in a way that Paul Mckenna’s “Think yourself thin” has not.

Flashy High Court judges

It is a bit incestuous for CharonQC & Geeklawyer to keep linking to each others blogs, but he does find such amusing stuff. For example: Lord Justice Richards of the the Stockwell Tube shooting case was caught exposing himself to a woman on a train. This is shocking and inexplicable behaviour from such a senior judge: what the hell was he doing on a train? doesn’t he have a chauffeur driven Rolls?

Perhaps he’s flashing because his mistress isn’t meeting his needs, & he just needs a new mistress? Oh hey, a judge? Can it be … Ruthie … is this His Honour?! Has the siren of this blog drawn another poor lawyer onto the rocks? Well Ruthie, at least you won’t have to be so secretive now …

Katherine Ward

For anyone who hasn’t heard about this lady, she was the 52 year old counsel for Rolls Royce who jumped to her death from a London hotel in the first week of January.

Ruthie was particularly upset by the incident, not least because The Times published a photograph of her in free fall, but also the nature of the coverage. Ms Ward was apparently a single career woman living alone, and earning around 250 k per year. Ruthie wonders whether a man in a similar position would have been described as a single career man. The clear inference is that her decision to be single and a successful lawyer was somehow linked to her self destruction. So girls, remember, if you don’t want to end up sad, alone and miserable, make sure that you stay at home and have lots of children, and don’t try and compete in a man’s world…

Lest anyone think that I am a raving feminist, may I disabuse you of that idea now. I am an individualist and believe that everyone ought to have equal opportunity to choose the lifestyle they want to lead, without being forced into a role based purely on their gender/sexuality/colour etc.

Open Business models

Via Boing Boing: How do you make a viable business when you give your stuff away for free and don’t protect (or at least fully protect) proprietary interests with IP rights? Continue reading ‘Open Business models’
