As of next year using a mobile phone whilst driving will carry a three point endorsement. Ruthie does not condone driving whilst using a mobile phone which apparently quadruples the risk of having a collision, but she does wonder whether it is necessary to make the offence endorseable. When the 12 point totting up rule came into force, 12 points really meant something. With a profusion of speed cameras, there are few regular drivers who have a clean licence and the worst affected are professional drivers whose livelihood depends on retaining their licence.
