Gun pr0n

Geeklawyer was down with his chums in Brighton at the WhiteAir09 Extreme sports Fes­ti­val. Judg­ing by the resplen­dent girth of most of the vis­i­tors the most extreme sport under­taken by many of them  would be to see who could munch their way through the largest num­ber Giant Pasties. Yoof cul­ture is, to Geeklawyer, Wyoming: a dis­tant and for­eign land where they speak semi-recognisable gib­ber­ish; “Ollies” “Rap”. More than once Geeklawyer laid out a sur­prised and unhappy young­ster for call­ing him ‘sick’ and ‘wicked’ when they watched him cut-a-rug to the sounds of the musi­cians. His aghast com­pan­ions later explained to him that this was, in fact, the very high­est of pos­i­tive superla­tives. It’s hell being 29 & 10 years past cool.

There was fun to be had The BMX bikes and board­ers were fun and dis­played huge skill. Some of the rid­ers had a bit of an ego issue and needed slap­ping and a fel­low pho­tog­ra­pher did just that. Well done that man.

On a some­what more con­tro­ver­sial note, in Geeklawyer’s jaun­diced opin­ion (& some lib­eral locals) was the pres­ence of the mil­i­tary. This was always going to upset GL being, as he is, an ex-member

of Al Quaeda (here are old pic­tures of a secret train­ing camp some­where in England):

But of course while Geeklawyer likes a bit of gun pr0n, who doesn’t, it was a lit­tle unset­tling see­ing the RAF and the Royal Marines hunt­ing bul­let fod­der amongst healthy vibrant youth. They painted a glam­orous pic­ture of an active lifestyle but Geeklawyer thought “where are are all the maimed crip­pled sol­diers?”; all the guys who served their coun­try, to be be maimed as a result of poor equip­ment, lack of sup­plies and then given third rate health treat­ment when they returned to the UK?
