Geeklawyer was down with his chums in Brighton at the WhiteAir09 Extreme sports Festival. Judging by the resplendent girth of most of the visitors the most extreme sport undertaken by many of them would be to see who could munch their way through the largest number Giant Pasties. Yoof culture is, to Geeklawyer, Wyoming: a distant and foreign land where they speak semi-recognisable gibberish; “Ollies” “Rap”. More than once Geeklawyer laid out a surprised and unhappy youngster for calling him ‘sick’ and ‘wicked’ when they watched him cut-a-rug to the sounds of the musicians. His aghast companions later explained to him that this was, in fact, the very highest of positive superlatives. It’s hell being 29 & 10 years past cool.
Cool boarders doing boarding. Please try and guess which is Geeklawyer.
There was fun to be had The BMX bikes and boarders were fun and displayed huge skill. Some of the riders had a bit of an ego issue and needed slapping and a fellow photographer did just that. Well done that man.
On a somewhat more controversial note, in Geeklawyer’s jaundiced opinion (& some liberal locals) was the presence of the military. This was always going to upset GL being, as he is, an ex-member
of Al Quaeda (here are old pictures of a secret training camp somewhere in England):
Not to mention SA80’s:
But of course while Geeklawyer likes a bit of gun pr0n, who doesn’t, it was a little unsettling seeing the RAF and the Royal Marines hunting bullet fodder amongst healthy vibrant youth. They painted a glamorous picture of an active lifestyle but Geeklawyer thought “where are are all the maimed crippled soldiers?”; all the guys who served their country, to be be maimed as a result of poor equipment, lack of supplies and then given third rate health treatment when they returned to the UK?
Ah well never mind the dark thoughts. On with the recruiting show:
