The location is the upstairs room of The Harp pub Chandos place London. From 6pm onwards. RSVP in the comments please.
To add that frisson of uncertainty Geeklawyer may randomly pick a few people ( including himself) to do 5 minute ‘Lightning Talks’ on a topic of their own choosing: be prepared.
So near, yet so far!
Will you all be talking exciting legal-type talk…or just getting drunk and accosting strangers to make them dance merry jigs with you?
I don’t see these as being entirely mutually exclusive. A comely serving maid might well wish to dance a jig with me while I simultaneously regale her with tales of demanding interlocutory applications.
Just don’t address her in English if you think she’s Swiss..didn’t go down too well last time…
I don’t know: it amused everyone else.
Good stuff.… I’ll be there, of course.….
I’ll be there!
I believe I shall be there as well. I shall drag Ruthie away from her shoe collection.
Hmm. Dragging her away from the shoe collection might just be possible but I strongly suspect she has a trial on & can’t come, which is a major bummer. She still insists on pretending to be a barrister.
I am undecided. This announcement may not seem particularly helpful, but I thought you should know that the success or failure of the event hangs in the balance (clearly I will be the life and soul of the do).
GL, got a spare room? This could swing the vote in your favour…
It will be much better with your presence. You are an academic with tenure, can you not blag funding from your university — or your blog sponsors (yea, I’m bitter
)
Martin, I shall be fight you for space in Geeklawyer’s spacious bijoux boudior
Count me in!
I shall be there.
think i’m in — and a very good venue too.popular with the orchestra from the eno who can have a few in there pre-perf and in the interval. they even used to ring the bells from the coliseum to warn them.
I’m in, barring anything last minute. I know the pub (I think).
But a Monday? I ask you. What kind of Heathite three day week does Geeklawyer’s practice involve?
Monday is not the ideal day I agree but it was forced on me by Bad People.
I shall be there, BVC-related distractions notwithstanding.
Ah. Monday drinks and tuesday hangovers — one of my favourites. I shall be there.
Also, forgot to add, that it is a rather fine drinking establishment too, with rather good sausages …
good sausages is what the profession needs
If I’m sober enough to be in polite-ish company by 6pm, you can count me in.
*WAAAAAAH*!!!!!
I can’t come!!!
WHY couldn’t it be on a weekend instead of a Monday?! I am up to my ANKLES in itnerant Student Nurses on a Monday ( three times a week, actually, but Monday is the WORST!) I have a pressie for Mary and EVERYTHING!!!!
*pulls self together* sorry this is a bit of a moan on my part, but I’m dissappointed!!
Wish I was up to my ankles in student nurses three times a week. In fact, slather them in baby oil and I’ll swap places.
Natch v disappointed too. Sure you can’t pull a sickie? It’s only once a year!
Hm — I think you’d need an awful LOT of Baby Oil, I’m afraid — there would be quite a bit of, er surface area to cover.…..!
I dare not pull a fast one, unfortunately, since my putatively steady source of wonga would be likely to disappear down the pan faster than the, er, movement of a person with C. Difficile.
Can you email me an addy so’s I can send the pressie I have for Mary to you so that you can give it to her for me?
Thanks for the invite. I’ll be there, barring last minute problems. It’s a tiny little place, I seem to remember from the ill-attended blogger drinks last year.
Yes it is small, we are in the upstairs bar.
Please count me in.
Count me in as well.
Bloody hell — if Jordan’s coming I might even make it! Hold on, that’s not really *the* Jordan is it. Hey ho.
I know I’m not a lawyer, but I’ve dated a few. Does that count? Ms. Robinson thought I might be able to add something to the proceedings. Not sure what she was referring to. Do you? Count me in.
Curses — Real Life ™ has intervened and so I shall not be along after all. Do have fun and don’t drink too much — sorry, what was I thinking? Disregard all after ‘fun’…
well, then! … the dust has settled and i am beginning to recover from the sheer thrill that was coming face to face with carl gardner (whom i politely insisted on addressing as john bolch — apologies to both for my having something of a twat moment), information overlord, nearly legal, opinionated bean, ms robinson, suzanne portnoy (who really should blog about law because it would become so much more fun), ruthie and of course the mighty geek himself (moobs NOT particularly in evidence — a cunningly cut jacket or a new gym regime…?).
we remembered absent friends (charon, harumph and ms minx perhaps too fictitious and too gorgeous respectively for us to see) and people talked about stuff. someone even had a computer thing that did clever computer things. it was like the nineteenth century meeting the 21st. with beer. gosh in spades!!!
seriously, i was delighted to meet all those present and offer my thanks to geek for his organising it.
i think next time minx and i should host something at our inn, cos they lurve bloggers!
thanks everyone and particularly to you, lord of geeks.
