Marriage and toys

Geeklawyer has always regarded marriage as an amusing childrens game played with expensive lawyers (well, not really expensive by comparison with Geeklawyer’s offensive over-billing, but you take the point).

Of course some things aren’t a proper part of the game: boys toys specifically, oh no.

But when Neil Medley decided he’d got better things to do with his money than pay for food for the kids his wife, Jane Sanderson, sold his personalised number plate for his Ferrari. Not unreasonably he decided to divorce her; frankly it was a lenient punishment for toy abuse. John Bolch has addressed this topic before.

But it does show the need to protect your toys from your worst enemy: the one you love. In Geeklawyer’s case this is obviously himself which leads to a degree of schizophrenia. In other cases I recommend an offshore trust with a use licence and a strong no-challenge clause.

Or failing that a hit-man, although this is illegal in many jurisdictions, which is political correctness gone mad, again.

* Has insidious picture in head of GL cutting his own Jermyn Street Tailored suits in half/painting his Mac purple/emptying his numerous offshore bank accounts and spending the ludicrous sums obtained therefrom on chocolate purely because he’s had a domestic with himself*

I prosecuted Medley in 1999 when he hired teenage boys to dispose of asbestos. My sympathies are with the wife.

[…] of Neil Medley’s messy divorce, which is currently in court on appeal. Since this is apparently the same Neil Medley who pleaded guilty to illegally employing three under-16s to remove asbestos […]
