Attentive readers with long memories may recall that Geeklawyer is around 300th in line to the Burmese throne. He therefore watches the unfolding events in that benighted land with horror. Only North Korea can challenge Burma as the worst place in the World to live. But whereas North Korea is nation gripped by a collective psychosis Burma is a nation owned, literally, by a military criminal gang.
In Burma ordinary citizens can be snatched from the streets and forced into slave labour gangs for no pay and with no food. Geeklawyer knows one activist who was made to stand in a large vat of excrement up to his neck for several days and who avoided execution only by escaping.
Hopefully they will gain the strength to overthrow the Junta, ideally only after my 299 predecessors in title are killed. Well, it’s be best for the nation and Geeklawyer if he was a king. Anonymous, naturally.
Update from Jon Mason: petition to support the Burmese protesters.
Problem is that Buddhist monks are rubbish at being aggressive and I’m skeptical about peaceful revolutions. Still here’s to hoping for liberation … and I suppose having you as a head of state may yield some perks.
Ghandi managed it.
However with Geeklawyer as head of state, things would be even worse. I would no doubt be appointed to his harem of women, and forced to perform degrading and disgusting acts and he would force his enemies to stand head down for several days in a bucket of excrement.
You enjoy the degrading & disgusting acts - you’d be battering down the palace gates to join the harem
I would be a tyrant - but an empathetic and benevolent one. Violence would be relatively modest.
Vivat Rex… or perhaps SPQR?
Will the West help? Or will it be China and India?
I think Ghandi would have his work cut out with the Junta
When you rule the world^W^W Burma, please can I be Minister For Talking To Cats?
I have the Minister for Arbitrary Justice and Beer post reserved for you.
Can there be a ministry of Morris?
I think that would fall within the remit of Culture Secretary - it’s yours in exchange for a fee.
I’ve told you allready i’m not doing that anymore…..
From the warm safety of my office I am now ’standing’ with the Burmese protesters. If only the Monks had internet access….
It would be grandstanding to actually go and endanger your life - I shall take the harder option and start a Facebook group demanding the oppression stop or face an email campaign.
