Site update

Changed the site theme and added Tag Clouds. The former in the forlorn hope of shutting martin up  and the latter to be a bit, you know, Web 2.0 - Geeklawyer is dead hip.

Geeklawyer has christened the theme ‘Pointlessly Enigmatic’ and before martin pipes up it is admitted that it is the standard Sandbox Kubrick them with a new graphic. Yea that’s lazy but what else did you expect?

Not entirely happy with the blog name & description over the picture as it’s now a little hard to read despite colour tweaks; that may need more work.

None of this may not seem much to you, but damn was it a lot of work: had to go through all the posts and munge them around.

Oh, and the disliked Math Comment Spam plugin has been reinstated. Sorry. But if you wish to know why look at the bottom of the main page where it indicates the number of spams consumed by Spam Karma - 11,ooo. Who has to deal with that? yes, Geeklawyer.

Comments are back - well done that man.

Glad to see you’re using Sandbox, even if you have gone and completely missed the point by using the Kubrick skin

“Lazy” isn’t quite the word that springs to mind…

I haven’t really missed the point. Yes I should wade knee deep in the blood & guts of the CSS and hack up my own theme using the Sandbox calls and microformats stuff. When I get the time I will - but hacking in my own image is easy, takes no time and makes it look non-default which is, as we’ve discussed before the sign of an amateurish blog by someone who doesn’t care or can’t care. I am neither - just a bit busy.

Go on tell me you hate the tag clouds too …

Methinks thou dost protest too much…

You’re right, Kubrick is the hallmark of a 13-year old’s blog. Kubrick + custom header, on the other hand, is at least the exclusive province of a 14-year old’s. Maybe even 15, at a push. There are lots of Sandbox skins out there that aren’t Kubrick, and would take you roughly 4 seconds to implement. Unsleepable would look pretty good: http://archgfx.net/blog/2006/noteworthy/sandbox-unsleepable

Anyway, a couple of points: you’re right, the blue header text isn’t right. Have you tried black? Or white? Or even a darker blue? I think the tagline needs to be in bold if you want it to be legible in any colour. Maybe also play with the font. Now you have a header with a bit of gravitas, a serif font (Garamond, Book Antiqua, etc) may be more appropriate.

Secondly, shouldn’t the custom image have rounded edges? See the bottom of your theme, etc. Square edges make it look unfinished, I would suggest.

Yea all stuff I’ll get around to soon. Honest. Thank for the, erm, as usual, supportive comments

unsleepable sucks - in fact all the sandbox themes are sucky to some degree: I’m not a huge fan of minimalism & most of them seem to be save unsleepable & ‘hippies’.

I would say Geeklawyer is definitely more sans serif: blunt, brash etc.

Constructive criticism. I would welcome your comments on my site, of course.

But, to spare your feelings, I will refrain from making any further comments on your site’s design.

I am going to be eating pizza very soon… delivered to my door…..

Delivered by a well known Ingerland football player who just happens not to have had a wedding this weekend. I am told that he will try to kick it through the window …..

I have tried to assist by opening the window. Last Sunday I had a Chinese meal (Egg fried rice, sweet and sour King prawns) delivered by a Liberal MP….. unfortunately it was cold… because he could not decide which route to take…

I am a bit puzzled…. because, apart from the tag cloud, your website looks exactly like it did last night… ?

Just had the pizza… a right cross… came in through the window… Unfortunately,… getting into the spirit of things… I headed it back… and it is now lying upside down in the road outside my flat… and a warden has just given me a fixed penalty notice for littering and for playing football on a public highway.

I tried to explain that I know nothing at all about football - but he was unmoved.

I am pleased that I live in Britain.

Tag clouds seem quite sexy, but how do they work? Some words seems to be in bold print. What does this meaan? Sorry to be dense, but it gives you an opportunity to demnonstrate your superior knowledge and ability.

The larger the font the more often the tag has been used.

Yes, that when tagging all the site’s stories I have tagged your name more than mine for reasons of my massive humility and modesty.

Martin is your Car painted in custom colours? Are your cloths customized?

Artisan blogs are nice, but due to the specialization of labor within our economic system must people don’t have the time to excel at being graphic designers/web programmers alongside doing important things like sleeping and daydreaming.

Bring on the nice easy generic designs.
