Charon podcasts on social media for lawyers

An interesting chat between CharonQC and Alex & Andy the Impact bloggers at Freeth Carthwright. Interesting for their take on social media which echoes Headshift’s well regarded talk at LawBlog 2007. There is little doubt that social media will be causing a slow revolution in the legal profession.

It wasn’t all accurate however since Alex is definitely heard saying: ” … Geeklawyer who is eccentric to say the least …”- you will pay for your impudence young Alex. Geeklawyer shall make you drink American beer.

All publicity is good publicity, as you know young Geeklawyer. Except, ahem, that Lawblog 2007 pub podcast… (cringes)

I think you need only see Dan Hulls comments (reproduced in the updated podcast post) to understand the caveats on that aphorism :)

I have some American beer at home and must say that it is a good imitation of the sort of ale brewed in good old Blighty. I trust that Dan Hull can bring some more with him next time he visits.

Certainly we can brew crap beer too and do. But, with the exception of some West Coast microbreweries, my experience of American beer was that it was weak flavourless urine. An American acquaintance had the theory that it was because American’s drank and drove - I have no idea.

It certainly took an enormous number of cans of Coors or Bud or Ol’ Redneck, or whatever the fuck it was, to get me smashed.

Not that I want to get into a row with a beer geek - we have some good Camra pubs down my way so I have a passing acquaintance with decent beer such as Hophead and Spitfire.

Even I think American beer is shite, and thats saying something. Beer “lite” whats that about? Err beer is made from sugar, ergo beer without sugar tastes like urine. If you don’t want the calories drink water. But this is the country that buys bottled tap water…

You mean there is anything besides American beer?

No doubt, like 90% of your fellow countrymen, you do not possess a passport, have never left the country and are therefore prepared to drink the pondwater that they dish up in bars in America, because you know no other…

Ruthie, American insularity is only about 95% our fault. We have limited diversity in neighbors, limited interest in the arts and the origin of Western ideas, and limited curiosity about things outside our consumer culture. So what are the good American beers?

Hmmm, sounds like one for our CAMRA chums Alex & Evil Dave. Evil?

There is no good American beer. Belgium may be a mere smudge on the map compared to the USA, but they have worked out what should be done with hops yeast sugar and water.
