American readers. You have felt a nagging sense of fear recently haven’t you? An ill sense of foreboding and worry. An unconscious message from the Id talking directly to your atavistic, primitive, brain stem. And yet the lawn looks fine, no strangers are seen lurking in the area but there is that sense of ‘not right’.
Geeklawyer is coming to your shores. Given his blasphemous irreverence to your president it seems inconceivable that the Reich’s ministry of Homeland Security can have granted him a visa. But yet Geeklawyer has powerfully connected friends in Washington, no not Dan Hull personal friend of the Clintons, but an old old money aristocratic New England family who have the desire to inspect Geeklawyer’s teeth for reasons that may one day appear on this blog.
He will be flying to Maine from Germany at the end of April and returning to Germany in very early May. He would love to meet any US readers in the neighbourhood. A car is to be provided for Geeklawyer so reasonable distance driving is possible.
A non-disclosure document protecting Geeklawyer’s identity will be made available to those wishing to meet up for a beer and didact. He can promise only outrage; but you must promise not to bring any weapon that goes “bang”: offended haste is a mistress not to be denied.
About time, dude….ring me when you are in the US and we’ll go bowling.
Is it better to be a member of the Californian Bar or the New York Bar? people I have spoken to say that even if one intends to practise only in California the NY Bar is a better bet due to greater admissibility in other states.
Not that Geeklawyer has any immediate intention of deserting the world’s only true democracy, but representing punters in the US might allow him to fuck them over on billing to an even greater extent. At the moment he has to hire US lawyers; but it might be cool to bill a disguised holiday.
LA to Maine is a bit of a trek for a bowling game! Still, yea, will call you.
Dude/GL: I am only in CA, which I am growing tired of except for LA biz part, about 25% of time (have been there a total of 10 days in last six weeks and am in Atlanta now)…but will be in DC, my hometown, in next few weeks…maybe we can meet. Bars: New York and DC are best…third is CA….but it really doesn’t matter if you have clients who bounce around. But Kelly’s Irish Times in DC near the Senate and in my old neighborhood is my first choice. I once asked Ruthie to meet me there but she said it was “beneath” her.
Thanks for the tip: confirms what I thought. Hope to meet you for a beer or five, email me your mobile? Whose punter picks up the tab?
When a thing is beneath Ruthie it must be truly subterranean: though your attempts at an assignation are unforgivable - pistols at Dan I think.
I will e-mail you cell. Can’t let public/rabble have.
Pah, I never received any such invite, although if I had I would taken great pleasure in pointing out that it was beneath me
Dan, having now formed that view that despite being American, you are both intelligent and cultured I will deign to meet you in London when you are next here. I share a lot of your views about running a practice and particularly client care (Geeklawyer could do with a seminar or two from you on that score I fear.)
If you’re lucky Ruthie will take you to Gordons wine bar near Embankment Tube. If you’re unlucky she will take you to the Intrepid Fox in Wardour Street…
Just discovered it been such a while since Ive been there the Intrepid Fox has now moved. http://www.intrepidfox.com/ http://ultimatepubguide.com/pubs/info.phtml?pub_id=39
And read about Gordons here

xxx
Sorry, mixed up my birds/Ruthies…The Ivy sounds good. But the one in LA is best.
Dont worry Dan, its entirely understandable that whenever you think about any woman, the image of Ruthie now appears…
Ah, yes, now I must have you by nightfall, Ruthie…or I will surely… You have a sister–or 2? Antler dancers?
Is that nightfall in UK or US?
Both. I have a lot of energy.
Ah Dan, you talk the talk, but can you walk the walk?
In 4 different languages and struts.
Blimey.
I would wish to be able to say that you two are turning my blog into a farce - but it’s a bit late for that. Actually it was a bit late for that about a month after I let Ruthie post.
Honestly Ruthie it’s not like you aren’t getting laid a lot! stop behaving like a ho
Dan: stop teasing my ho - it’s cruel; she’s a bit dim and doesn’t realise she’s being mocked.
I’ll ban the pair of you goddammit…
I was about to make a joke about cunning linguists, but that would be sad and inappropriate.
Anyway GL, have you considered the possibility that we are in fact just both teasing you?
Yes;
But Dan wouldn’t and you are too dim to have considered it. The double bluff is a game for smart people; confine yourself to watching me rather than embarrassingly emulating me
Excellent stuff….
BTW… have had a quick look at new Bar Council website on my blawg. Puzzled about the picture
Ha ha, Excellent. You do know this means that USA PLC will have a copy of all ten of your fingerprints upon entrance. This info will be nicely shared with UK PLC for our new register.
