For those readers too young to remember the reference is to Paul Hardcastle's memorable ditty all about the average age of combatants killed in the Vietnam War. Maybe there's money to be made in a re-release since two of the four soldiers killed in Basra on Friday were both 19, two were women, and one was both 19 and a woman. At this rate the average age of combatants killed in the Iraq must be coming down nicely, and it must be in contention for the conflict in which the most British female combatants have been killed. Still there's time still to go. The British body count is currently only at 140.
Why are female combatants still singled out for particular attention in the media? Typical headline "Four soldiers killed, including two women." When these women signed up to fight, they knew they may die for their country. Is the life of a female solider worth more than a male soldier?
Course its all the fault of the Iranians who are supplying weapons to the insurgents. Not that we might be looking for an excuse to invade Iran. Guess even the gullible British Public won't wear the Weapons of Mass Destruction argument a second time.
And this is not at all connected to the 15 British naval troops recently held hostage.
UPDATE: And nothing at all to do with the decision to allow the troops to sell their anti-Iran propaganda, stories to the press.
