Pr0n drives successful technology

Apparently some people take a quarter of a century not to learn the lessons of history. Even when they are told: “there is a critical lesson from history for you in this. Learn it. You may fail if you don’t”.

The whole high definition Blu-Ray/HD-DVD format war thing has been characterized by numerous commentators as the new Beta/VHS thing rerun. And tech historians will say VHS won because the porn industry chose it. They did so because Sony wouldn’t let them make Beta porn for moral reasons; and since they had strong proprietorial control over the format they were able to make the policy stick.

Wind the calendar on 25 years and what is happening? The same. Sony has proprietorial control of Blu-Ray and it won’t let anyone make porn Blu-ray disks, while the HD-DVD guys will. Up to now the format battle is honours even. Looks like another reason for people not to buy Blu-Ray equipped PS3’s.

What is it with Sony & formats? How many times can you lose a market by insisting on your own format that no-one else wants.

Geeklawyer has never watched pr0n and never will since it is immodest, morally sapping and would endanger his entry into heaven.
