The last forum software package Geeklawyer used made it nearly impossible to keep spammers off of the forum. In the end the effort ground him down and he recently replaced the software with something new. This will hopefully make management easier & so make the forum something Ruthie & Geeklawyer actually want to use and develop for you.
There are two problems: the old posts are gone: it may be possible to import them later, just don’t hold your breath.
Second: even this is still not absolutely what Geeklawyer wants and so it may still have to be changed again in the, hopefully far, future.
In the interim Geeklawyer has begun posting some conference planning issues there and he
hopes that you will register/re-register and participate.

There are a couple of Wordpress forum packages. I’ve tried most, and the two best, to my mind, are:
bbPress: http://bbpress.org/. That’s the software they use on the WP.org support website, and it’s bloody good.
RSDiscuss: http://www.sargant.com/blog/wordpress-plugins/rs-discuss/ . Not as powerful, but easier to implement. Crucually, it uses the same user database as your Wordpress install itself, so people don’t have to re-register for either the blog or the forum once they’ve registered for one.
