Yes we all thought apartheid went out of fashion in the 80’s like legwarmers and red braces, but like the Parka, apartheid is now making a comeback in the UK.
Wolverhampton and Croydon councils have both institued Asian-only swimming nights. No whites allowed. Not even pool staff. Ruthie shudders to think what kind of justification was advanced to support this decision and wonders whether the white/black/chinese council taxpayers are fully aware and supportive of this decision. Hold on..maybe the Chinese count as Asian for these purposes. What about the mixed race..do they count as Asian? What if Ruthie held to the self-definition of Asian despite appearing white? What about albinos? Is there a race arbiter on the door? What if Ruthie blacked up for the purpose could she get in, only to be thrown out when the colour came off in the water?
The tragedy of course is that these sorts of policies drive normally decent reasonable people into the arms of the likes of the BNP. Ruthie will be drawing this case to the attention of Liberty and will update you with the result.
Sadly Ruthie predicts much more of this kind of inter-racial and cultural conflict in 2007 with a resulting increase in fear and intolerance.
