Geeklawyer to be sued for defamation?

Heavens, Xmas is supposed to be professionally boring; you know, only the mad tumble of shopping decisions to contend with: does Geeklawyer buy Ruthie a Porsche or a Bentley Continental for her sterling efforts on the blog this year? Or would that be vulgar? Perhaps just a box of choccies and a card.

Then up pops a Mr Rothnie from, or pretending to be from, the Sleazygroup. Yes!!! Sleazyjet - the only corporation with air and sea craft large enough to carry the corpulent blubbery Stelios Hajibopapolous: though even for them the fuel costs for such a viscous butyraceous flatulent adventure would be ruinous.

Apparently the Corpulent One objects to a comment that some poster has made to a blog post that Geeklawyer made back in June, i.e. some six months ago. Victims Customers of Sleazyjet, Geeklawyer speculates, would probably be impressed with the promptness of their response and wish that they could get such lightning fast responses in their own dealings with the company; at least, that is, if Geeklawyer’s own experiences of flying with them are anything to go by.

Geeklawyer is not sure that this is not some elaborate practical joke from Ruthie: Rothnie - v - Ruthie?? However Sleazygroup do have a Mr Rothnie, who research indicates is a PR man. Geeklawyer wonders, if Mr Rothnie is the true originator of these emails, or even if he is whether he is acting as some brown-nosing lickspittle without authority. One hopes truly that the sebaceous lardaceous one is indeed offended.

Dear Lord let it be the latter.

Emails exchanged so far:

please remove the libellous comments about stelios posted on your website and confirm that this has been done. thank you. http://geeklawyer.org/blog/2006/06/29/wow-us-supreme-court-rules-guantanamo-trials-illegal/feed/

James,
Please provide further details as that you regard as being libellous and I will in the interim suspend those parts which are prima facie libellous while I conduct further investigations.

Sincerely etc

Mr Rothnie,
further to my previous email, before proceeding further, I require Mr Stelios Hajibopapolous to write to me to confirm that you are speaking on his behalf rather than Sleazyjet.

Sincerely etc

Geeklawyer is in something of a bind. The article isn’t, and cannot be, in it’s entirety defamatory as much of it is unobjectionable comment or mere vulgar abuse, and Hajibopapolous hasn’t yet identified the offending parts so Geeklawyer cannot remove them. Could it be that retrousse Hajibopabopolous is the new Robert Maxwell? Never mind that he has no case at law, he merely has deeper pockets than anyone else and will spend his opponents into submission? Perhaps he is not interested in rectifying mere factual errors but vapourising all negative and non-fawning comment in its entirety?

Bizarrely the unexpurgated text is available in the comments sections of other blogs where this commentor posted. One merely has to do something common sense like Googling for portions of the offending post to find at least 23 similar instances. What a dozy cunt.

Geeklawyer, nonetheless, regards this as jolly good fun. He has never been sued before and appearing on his own behalf should be entertaining. Nor has he done any defamation in a long long while. It’ll be interesting to see litigation from a punters perspective.

Geeklawyer intends to tweak the lipidinous Boeotian one further by setting up a special forum for this purpose: perhaps easy.geeklawyer.org/[sl]ea[s,z]ygroup.geeklawyer.org (forgive geek regular expressions). Let us desist from adding oil to troubled waters, eh?

So what do the full e-mail headers say, Geeklawyer? Do they originate from a mailserver inside the sleazy group?

They do: ’sleasygpmx01.sleazygroup.co.uk’ to be exact. But are these spoofed IP’s? Ruthie is pretty clever, for a girl, perhaps she could do that. She’ll have to be thoroughly examined and cross-examined, and examined crossly …

‘corpulant’ should read corpulent (though you did get it right the second time, well done!!)

Apologies to my loyal fans, Ruthie has been far too stacked lately doing litigation that she gets paid for to spend any time worrying about Geeklawyers latest spat. Should be back on stream some time next week.

In the meantime I’d much prefer the Porsche to the Bentley (so difficult to park).

Mary congratulates Geeklawyer on this latest of endeavours in the furtherance of his need for celebrity.

As an accountant Mary does not have the opportunity, as delicious as this, to be potentially sued. Good on you.

Let us hope that SleazyJet does take you to court, so that we can giggle our way through your posts about your latest adventures.
