Geeklawyer is somewhat concerned that the current news reports that Sir ‘colostomy bag’ Cliff may not get his pension fund are a tad premature.
He and Mick ‘fat talentless scouse twat’ Hucknall have been punting the line that music in the UK will die imminently if the term of protection for sound recordings doesn’t go up from 50 to 95 years. Not 50 to 70 years in line with copyright - on no, 95 years. And presumably they will then seek to raise the copyright protection term to be in line with the 95 years of sound recording rights.
The reports are that the Gower report will recommend against such a rise in the term of protection; presumably since it will not achieve anything useful for the artist and will damage the public domain.
It is, however, worth emphasising that it merely a recommendation of Gower that no extension be made. It will not be binding on the government and given the influence the music industry has, it is entirely likely that it will be ignored.
Geeklawyer hopes to have to eat his words, but rather doubts he will.
