One day Geeklawyer expects to be able to tune into Radio 4 and hear the weather forecast: “there are warnings of gales in Viking North Utsire South Utsire Forties Cromarty Forth Tyne Dogger Fisher and Upsilon Andromeda b”. Granted Andromedans might not find a terribly specific forecast; it may not help when planning a visit to the beach:
“will the weather be good Fagummodr dear? Any danger of more diamond rain?
I’m not sure my tentacled love, the BBC weather forecast only said that the northern hemisphere would be 500C with 400 MPH winds”.
Still it was not that long ago that we had no direct evidence of planets, so even approximate weather forecasts seem jolly impressive. Geeklawyer looks forward to the speculated extra-planetary super resolution telescopes that will allow us to watch Fagummodr’s wife sunbathing topless.
