The Geeklawyer blog is now available as a podcast

Two coincidences allow Geeklawyer to exercise his vast ego yet again. He previously used a PC running SuSE Linux and it had no microphone attached, no big deal. However, it mysteriously died and he needed a new machine PDFQ - pretty damned fucking quick. Geek readers will understand this to be paper thin justification for buying toys.

The toy in question was an 24 inch iMac with a second screen. As a toy this is so cool than even with his vast vocabulary Geeklawyer lacks words to express it adequately. What it does have is an inbuilt mike: hardly novel he’ll readily concede but personal revolutions often arise from small combined conveniences. So when he found that the iMac would combine readily with the Audacity editor (or the GarageBand software) it became trivially easy to cut mp3s of his voice. And my, how he love’s the sound of his own voice.

Secondly, Geeklawyer found a very tasty little Wordpress plugin that automated podcast creations. So the revolution is ready to roll. There is now a new category on the blog of ‘podcast’ for your aural delight. He hope doing podcasts is less effort than typing articles but we shall see.

[You may have some difficulty loading - if so click on the ‘audio mp3′ button. And while rss feed now works for rss, iTunes barf on the rss feed for some reason - it whinges “does not seem to be a valid podcast url”. Can’t think why but Geeklawyer will go all geek on it at some point soon, but has too much evil to do today so It’ll get done later.

Update: Rss feed now works - wont make an arse of myself telling you how long it took to fix such a trivial problem!

To subscribe via Apples iTunes copy the link from the side menu into the ’subscribe to Podcast’ box or whatever URL/Feed box on your software.]

Excellent… I too have a Mac. I shall be looking into this technology - Rather like the idea of podcasting. Enjoyed your first cast - ‘depraved tastes’? Sounds interesting?

Thanks, though I cant get rss feeds to handle it for some reason. This is annoying since it prevents people with iTunes - an important sector - subscribing.

Aggggh!! How dare you find a way to talk to the readers from which I am excluded, nay SILENCED. That’s it. I’m going to buy a Mac and learn how to use it if it takes me the next six months. Then we’ll see who sounds the best.

Okay I begrudgingly admit. Its achingly cool. And how many other blogs have a podcast eh? And you sound almost sexy.

I think you should buy a Mac, they are totally cool. But what makes you think I’d let you podcast? I think a bit of renewed fascism might be called for, in the improbable event you start to know what you are doing :P

E mail Ruthie to Geeklawyer “Hmm, presumably if I were to send you an mp3 file of me talking you could turn it into a podcast?”

E mail Geeklawyer to Ruthie “Sadly its technically impossible, this machine is designed for my voice-files alone. Need your own Mac :-)”

Whilst I may not be geeky I’m not actually STUPID.

Fear the wrath of Ruthie….

I’ll deliver my judgement on that claim at a later date…

I think Ruthie should get her own Mac, hack into Geeklawyer’s blog and stage a mutiny.

A slight revolution might be called for.

Congrats Geekie!

I think she should get her own mac but I’ll thank you not to incite insurrection Mary: shes enough trouble as it is.

Damned colonials.

I’ll teach you Ruthie and you’ll be podcasting in no time!!

Tut tut tut Geeklawyer ganging up on your co-blogger like that. Although being a clever lawyer Ruthie, I have every faith that you would no doubt work it out after a bit of light reading. Alternatively you could even pop into London to the Regent Street apple store and attend a free tutorial with the true Apple geeks at the ‘genius bar’.

Purchasing a mac is certainly the way to go, I’m happily tapping away of my lovely MacBook Pro now :-)

‘Genius Bar’. Sounds cool, thanks for the tip.

As a non-geek its somewhat distressing when I consider my group of friends how many of them are geeks. I wonder what this says about me.

Enough people have told me how wonderful Mac is for me to consider purchasing one. Geeklawyer has forwarded me an e mail entitled “The Wonderful World of Mac” so once I’ve figured out how to open the e mail I’ll be able to find out what I’m missing.

Ruthie… I have the ability/capability to enable you to seriously out do Geeklawyer… I have three television cameras, lights, access to a studio… what about a Webvideocast?…. puts mere podcasts to shame. I can even arrange for you to ride over a sand dune with a mirage looking like Lawrence of Arabia on camel as an intro to your webvideocast!

BTW.. had a bad motorbike accident tonight - Stationary, waiting to turn right - Lovely woman (as it turned out) didn’t see me - despite fact that I had yellow helmet on, Yellow flourescent and Black Thomas bike jacket… and hit me at 30 mph from behind… Didn’t see me!!! (think Bike??)

A tense moment as I was shunted into incoming traffic… and only live to tell the tale because I managed to turn bars to go left (thankfully I was in neutral…otherwise i would have been a ‘goner’ … quite a bad injury in terms of punctures to my legs… but, thankfully no broken bones.

Bike a bit scratched… but, thankfully, no serious damage because I was under the bike as it slid 20 yards down Acton Lane… jeans and boots shrededed a bit!

No time to go to hospital… neurofen and a few glasses of Rioja… Don’t like ambulances. hospitals…. get MRSA and other superbugs in those places…

Helmet written off… big cracks… But… no damage, thankfully to my head… at least, not discernible as of tonight.

Aha, another Mac user comes out of the closet, albeit a nouveau one. I’m envious of the 24″ iMac though. As a skint paralegal, all my Macs (geekily plural) are over 3 years old.

Podcasting. Hmm, I thought about that. But, given the number of wine sodden posts I make that require a few editettes the next day, it is probably not a good idea. And the anonymity thing would disappear quite rapidly. But tempting, nonetheless. Perhaps I shall be a geeklawyer wannabe, without the, err, devasting machismo.

Mind you, I’m surprised geeklawyer has the time.

Ruthie, get a Mac and actually enjoy a computer, really.

This “does not seem to be a valid Podcast URL” error is all over the forums but no one says what the f’ing problem actually was or is. Did your feed pass the feed validator? Was it something lame like that? Mine does, says valid no problem and it adds fine through the “advanced” tab but everyone still gets the same retarded error message from iScheisse store link. The same problem is reported all over Apple’s support site but those dickwads never answer the question. Do you want to post an answer? You would probably get traffic; only reason I am on your site is because you have this same error message index by Google. Thanks.

I can’t remember how I fixed it all those years ago. My recollection was that it was me and not iTunes at fault. I did also pass it through a validator and all was fine. I have a feeling I needed to hack the php files in Wordpress but I have no clue now what I did.

Sorry to be useless.
