Ruthie was rudely awakened from her torpor this morning with the news that her 24 quid Labour Party membership fee is being used to fund Cherie’s hairdresser. Ruthie may be a skinflint, but the last time she went for a cut and blow dry it cost 20 quid. Even a senior stylist was only 24 quid, so Ruthie wonders how Cherie’s hairdresser, sorry stylist, can justify charging 275. Thats one hell of a bad hair day.
It is accepted that the partner of a party leader should look good, but it seems that Cherie is quite selective as to when she wishes to present herself as First Lady and when she would prefer to assert her independence. Ruthie thinks she needs to choose which role she wishes to play: wife of the PM or independent lawyer? If there is to be a role of First Lady then a budget should be set aside to compensate her for her loss of earnings from other jobs. Trying to combine the two roles is prone to conflict.
Hairdressing is one of the lowest paid service jobs. At the minimum wage of 5.05 per hour Cherie’s 275 could fund a hairdresser for 54 hours. Ruthie thinks that many competent junior stylists would jump at the opportunity to work on such a celebrity. What a good advert for Labour that would have been.
Alternatively the total bill of 7,700 could fund some serious cosmetic surgery…
“Ruthie wonders how Cheries hairdresser, sorry stylist, can justify charging 275…”
Ermm; well, I charge nearly that for an hour of litigation and despite being merely a solicitor I imagine you do too. I suspect both our clients ask the same question! Glasshouses, stones etc.
I imagine a busy & expensive stylist will do between what 5 to 10(?) stylings a day at £25 a pop. so £275 a day doesnt sound too bad.
Bear in mind also that Cherie looks like a dog turd hiding under a cheap wig: it’s no entirely unreasonable that she should wish to look as good as possible. However I think she, or phoney Tony, should pay for it: fuck knows they earn enough.
And be thankful she isn’t billing plastic surgery to the Labour party. Not all that sympathetic to your worries: it serves you right for being in the Labour party!
