Geeklawyer was happily rummaging around in the bowels of the UK trademark database when he fell over this beastie: Google, sorry, Google, owns the trademark ‘blogger’ in the UK. Priority was claimed from a 2003 US application. It was a word mark too, not a ‘graphics plus words’ cop-out trademark. Geeklawyer cannot but help think that ‘Blogger‘ is tiny, wee wee, bit descriptive. And was so even back in the dim distant mists of 2003.
Geeklawyer still likes Google & retains a touching and naive faith in the goodwill of the Mountain View boys, Chinese takeaways notwithstanding. They are after all humping Microsoft in the arse doggy fashion, which is jolly amusing to watch.
Geeklawyer believes Google will “do no evil” with this mark. Honest.
In Switzerland Google has the word mark BLOGGER for int. classes 9 and 41. It’s number 533851 (cf. http://www.swissreg.ch).
