Geeklawyer was at the LinuxWorld show in London yesterday. Ever an enjoyable bash it invariably degenerates into an epic booze up afterwards in the Champion pub in Notting Hill with the Lonix crew.
This year’s hunt for boys toys drew himself to the ravishing Nokia 770 Internet tablet. This is not a phone but means of reading emails browsing the web updating your blog and so on from anywhere where there is a Wi-Fi connection. It runs linux and you can install debian packages on it, so a whole load of cool Open Source packages and maybe Skype will also be available. And next year they will be enabling VoIP. Geeklawyer cannot begin to tell you how totally cooool this thing was: supermodel slim, light with a gorgeous screen. Catches? it isn’t a phone as well, oh, and Geeklawyer managed to crash the software when allowed to play. Doh.
aL was wondering if Geeklawer saw the release date for this pretty toy that runs nix as aL covets this product and was told it would NOT be released on time (3rd quarter of this year).
“… and was told it would NOT be released on time (3rd quarter of this year)…”
Probably true. Geeklawyer was told by the external company (Open Hands something) doing the development and manning the stall that it was really really, no really, not vapourware and due for release this later this year - no firm date given but he got the impression of the 4th Quarter - just in time for Santa’s annual act of aggravated trespass. More than enough time to pad the clients the invoices he thinks.
[…] Geeklawyer thought it would never appear. Wrong, it’s here. […]
