According to the Sunday papers Tony Bliar is looking to dump Kenneth Clark because he is ‘too soft on crime’ and bring back the Evil One.
If true this is really alarming. The past couple of decades have seen a steady trend whereby each newly incumbent Home Secretary is more loony than the last, in an attempt to pander to tabloid populism.
I thought Micheal “you must help the police put you in jail” Howard was as bad as it could get but then along came Jack “jail the homeless” Straw.
I hesitate to say that it can get no worse than Blunkett, lest I provoke the Gods, but at least when he was shown to be a lying pathetic stalking sexual harasser his sacking allowed a sigh of relief. Clark has not been great, but he has the advantage that he’s not Blunkett.
