Danny O’Brien is contemplating what I’ve been for a long while: starting a European EFF. He has started a pledge to fund it and the pledge can be found at: pledgebank.
There have been a number of attempts to start digital rights organisations. One with which I was associated was the Campaign for Digital Rights which had a flurry at the start and then fizzled out. All of which underlines the structural issues around running a campaigning organisation: how do you fund it, promote it, keep it chugging away and make it work?
I have offered to be a/the tame lawyer but got no reply (perhaps I should have said I wouldn’t charge
) Still, this needs to be done, if not by him then by me. The UK needs such an organisation badly and the EFF is so totally US introspective as to be of no use to Europeans/Brits.
